Preventative and Restorative Dentistry

Cosmetic Fillings IconCosmetic Fillings

Cosmetic fillings are tooth-colored restorations that Kandl Dental will place to repair minor cracks, fractures, and decay in the teeth. Also known as composite fillings, cosmetic fillings require just one appointment. The simple procedure involves:

  • Removing present tooth decay
  • Filling the tooth with the composite resin material
  • Shaping and polishing the filling to match the natural form and function of the tooth

If you are interested in learning more about cosmetic fillings and their benefits, we invite you to contact our office soon. Our knowledgeable, friendly dental team will be happy to answer your questions and help you make informed decisions about your dental health.

Root Canals IconRoot Canals

Root canal therapy (also known as endodontic treatment) is often recommended to restore significantly damaged or decayed teeth. Dr. Kandl may perform root canal therapy when:
  • Decay has affected the tooth's pulp
  • A tooth is injured or traumatized
  • An infection or abscess has developed inside the tooth
We try to make every root canal procedure as pain-free and gentle as possible. Dr. Kandl can complete the root canal in just two appointments. Once the root canal therapy is complete, he will place a dental crown on top of the tooth for protection and cosmetic reasons. If you are experiencing any pain or discomfort in your teeth or gums, please contact the office of Kandl Dental immediately to receive the care that you need.

Tooth Crown IconCrowns

Crowns are a dental restoration procedure used to protect weakened or fractured tooth structure. This process will use a ceramic cover typically called a "cap" to go over an existing damaged tooth. Crowns will be shaped and contoured to appear just like your other teeth. Once thoroughly cleaned the crown will be cemented in place. A crown will function just as a perfectly healthy tooth. With good oral hygiene, a crown can last approx. 5-10 years.

Tooth Bridge IconBridges

Bridges are much like a crown, but they are used to fill in a space that was once occupied by a tooth that is no longer there. Bridges are used to fill in one or multiple teeth. The bridge itself will be made up of ceramic teeth fused to a crown on either side to be anchored down. This process helps create the look of a new tooth or teeth in an area that was once a gap. With good hygiene a bridge can last approx. 5-10 years. When in place, bridges and crowns will:

  • Restore function to your bite
  • Enhance the beauty of your smile
  • Protect weakened teeth or prevent the other teeth from shifting in the mouth
Crowns and Bridges are made of porcelain and generally take 2 visits to complete.

Inlays iconInlays

Inlays are porcelain or composite material that would be a suggested option by Dr. Kandl when or if a general filling will not properly restore the surrounding tooth. Used in cases when a tooth is decayed or damaged and requires a stronger material to help fortify the surrounding tooth structure. The inlay will be molded and manufactured off the imprint of the affected areas. Inlays fit into the tooth and will not affect the cusps.

Onlays iconOnlays

Much like inlays, onlays are used to fill in areas that are caused by decay, damage to cusps, as well as the surface of your bite. Although unlike inlays, the area can also include cusps and the space between. Onlays are much like a crown as they are similar in function but an onlay covers part of the tooth whereas a crown covers the entire tooth.

Fluoride Treatment IconFluoride Treatment

You may hear and see Fluoride but what exactly is it? Fluoride is a mineral incorporated into a tooth structure that helps make your teeth not only stronger, but also decay-resistant. Think of fluoride almost as a forcefield to help protect from decay and cavities. When we eat and drink plaque, bacteria and sugars begin to chip away at a tooth's enamel layer. Fluoride helps by fighting off and rebuilding that layer of protection. To find out more about the Fluoride Treatment that we have available here at Kandl Dental just ask us for more information.

Mouth Guards IconMouth Guards

If you happen to be active in any type of contact sport, regardless of your age, a mouth guard can help protect your mouth, teeth, and jaw from injury. There are a few types of mouthguards. Custom mouthguards are fitted to your teeth and jaw. They are also able to vary in thickness depending on what type of sport you are playing. Store bought mouthguards tend to be thicker and are less comfortable leading the person wearing them to not use them properly. Be sure to ask us more about mouthguards and how we can help!
